2018 Field Trip Calendar / Meeting Times / Monthly Activity


This is the proposed Field Trip Calendar for 2018. Please note that field trip locations are tentative pending negotiations with landholders and leaseholders to confirm permission to enter.

The Club Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at the Clubroom. Each month members are encouraged to bring along, show off and discuss their samples for mineral of the month.

While on a field trip, please remember to follow the Senior Field Trip Officer's instructions at all times in regards to:

Safety clothing:
Make sure you are wearing sturdy footwear, long sleeve shirts, long pants. Bring a hat - including a hard hats when visiting a working mine. Safety glasses are needed when breaking rock. High visibility vests, are essential if you are exploring new areas and walking away from the main group.

Where to fossick:
Do not just wander off - let others know where you are going. Be aware of dangerous ground and stay clear of mine shafts, unsafe quarry faces or drop-offs. Be wary of others around you when hitting or breaking rocks or swinging picks and hammers.

What to Bring:
Carry sufficient water. Bring the appropriate fossicking gear - according to the set list. Check your vehicle is maintained - oil, petrol, tyre pressure including the spare tyre. Bring any other item suggested on the list for that trip.

What not to Bring:
No pets allowed. No firearms. This is in respect of the wishes of the station owners and protection of their livestock.
